![]() Ty Adams brings the SolTrekker concept “green” RV to the Tacoma Fall RV Show In 2006 at the age 28, RV writer and editor Ty Adams quit his job, sold his house and sank $30,000 into a biodiesel-powered RV, the bioTrekker. Since then, he has traveled thousands of miles around the country, spreading the word about the benefits of using alternative fuel. At the Tacoma Fall RV Show, Adams will unveil a “next generation” sustainable concept RV-- the SolTrekker—dubbed by Adams as the most eco-friendly motorhome in the universe.” “People can be comfortable and green,” says Adams. “We show how energy efficiency and environmental consciousness can be combined with the comfortable lifestyle of RV travel.” The SolTrekker transforms Adams’ single-focus, grassroots project into an even more dynamic educational tool that not only runs free of fossil fuels, but operates all interior heating and lighting systems by solar power. Taking renewable and sustainable solutions to a new level, SolTrekker uses no petroleum, no diesel generator, no propane stove, water heater or furnace. What it does have is a diesel engine that runs on 100 percent biodiesel or straight vegetable, solar powered house systems, interior/exterior LEDs, wall/ceiling insulation and solar powered heating. The SolTrekker motor home also incorporates the latest waterless toilet, recycles greywater for use in sinks and showers and utilizes an aerodynamic gutter system to capture rainwater, which can be used in showers or sinks or further filtered for potable water. In addition, the SolTrekker uses an efficient galley burner that uses vegetable oil and the interior design capitalizes on recycled and sustainable materials such as denim insulation and cork flooring. Since Adams created the bioTrekker, his mission has grown into a non-profit organization called SolTrekker – The Sustainable Adventure (www.soltrekker.org or www.biotrekker.com). With both East Coast and West Coast SolTrekker motor homes making appearances and presentations, the organization’s message inspires individuals and organizations to realize sustainable practices.
