2008 Tacoma Fall RV Show® Exhibitor Descriptions

Baydo’s RV Center, Fife: Dan Rabold, sales
Baydo’s RV Center in Fife will debut the new Komfort Lite trailer at the Tacoma RV Show. According to salesman Dan Rabold, the Komfort Lite (21’ to 28’) will change the RV light business in the Northwest with its new features and rugged structure. After 40 years in the business in Clackamas, Ore., Komfort has designed this next generation, lightweight camping trailer with all the amenities including aluminum frame, fiberglass exterior, flat screen TV and heated water tanks. Starting at 4,000 lbs, this trailer is poised for year round hunting, skiing, beach combing and traveling.

Eric’s RV Performance Center, Sequim: Eric Davis, owner
In business since 1972, Eric’s RV Performance Center continues to bring creative RV performance and handling products to Northwest RVers.  In an effort to make RVs more powerful, earn better fuel mileage and improve handling, Eric’s offers Banks Power enhancing equipment, sway bars and shock absorbers and Roadmaster tow products.

5th Wheel Place
Specializing in luxury fifth wheels, 5th Wheel Place plans to exhibit several high-end Teton models, including the heavy-duty 36-foot Liberty and the 32-foot Prestige. The Liberty is considered the top luxury fifth wheel in the market, featuring high ceilings and residential interior design. Introduced earlier this year, the three-quarter ton Prestige is Teton’s new entry in the lighter, shorter, more economical market. 5th Wheel also plans to spotlight the new 32-foot Escalade by KZ. According to owner Kevin Keppel, increasing numbers of serious RVers are looking to move from a motorized coach to a fifth wheel rig due to the greater economy, smooth tow, condo feel and independence of a truck.

Lost Lake Resort, Tacoma: Jeff Graham, owner
Now that more than half of Lost Lake Resort’s 275 lots have been sold, owner Jeff Graham warns that the best lots are dwindling. Located on 11-acre, privately-owned, Lost Lake’s major attraction is its vicinity to Tacoma, Lacey and Olympia. The resort offers features such as large, heated indoor/outdoor pool, whirlpool, fitness center, miniature golf, camping and golf nearby. Graham says increasing numbers of people are concerned about the cost of moving their RV from location to location. As a result, many are leaving their rigs in one spot instead of moving it from venue to venue and flying or driving a car back and forth.

K/M Resort of America, Inc., Tacoma: Kelli Abercrombie, marketing director
K/M Resorts of America will promote its eight private RV resorts in Washington State. All located one tank away from Seattle, its signature resorts of Maple Grove in Randall, near Mount Rainier and Beachwood Resort in Blaine, offer every amenity from pools and lighted tennis courts to golf courses and fishing. Kelli Abercrombie says the most recent trend she has seen is that members are no longer traveling to multiple resorts for short stays during their vacations. Instead, they stay a week or more in one site. The greatest benefit of membership – the resort will always find you a spot!

MC Electric Vehicles, Seattle: Jen Johnson, marketing director
Invited to the show to bring attention to alternative energy vehicles, MC Electric Vehicles anticipates introducing two electric vehicles, including the Miles Electric sedan and the Zenn Sun Coupe. Northwesterners appear to have embraced the concept of alternative energy vehicles says Johnson, “They are exploring their options and we are selling 20 to 30 cars a month.” Due to the fact that these electric cars run on smaller than traditional tires, they do not make appropriate tow vehicles, explains Johnson. “However, we do see RVers pulling them on trailers or in toy haulers.

Poulsbo RV, Inc., Kent: Deborah Grover, inventory director
Poulsbo RV introduces the 2009 Winnebago Era (22’ to 24’), Class B motor home. Era combines fuel efficiency, maneuverability and functionality into a sleek, aerodynamic ride. Powered by a Mercedes diesel, this innovative vehicle features a Sirius® Satellite Radio, holding tank monitoring system and curved Sierra Maple cabinetry with choice of four décor packages. In addition, Poulsbo RV will display the 2009 Forest River Georgetown GTX toy hauler (sleeps 8) and its exclusive Rainier travel trailer line with its many floor plans that includes those with five bunkhouses.

RV Home Mattress Doctor, Edmonds: Karen Hanning, owner
Specializing in RV upgrades and custom sizes, RV Home Mattress encourages owners to toss the old, worn-out springs and spring for a good night’s sleep with a new, firmer foam mattress.

Seattle RV, Lynnwood: Mike Crockett, sales manager
Seattle RV is proud to introduce Northwest RVers to Mirage Enterprises, Inc.’s new model, the Hardcore toy hauler. Designed to carry Harleys and quad racers, Crockett says this lightweight 20-footer is commercial grade tough, “It’s like a Snap-on tool box!” This uniquely functional hauler foregoes a shower, but offers every other amenity including sleeping accommodations and galley. At 7.5-feet in width, this rugged light trailer resembles a work trailer.

South Hill RV Sales, Puyallup: Ted Tatum, sales manager
New this year, South Hill brings the first Eclipse travel trailer to the RV scene. The mid-to-upper level Milan (23’ to 29’) provides all the comforts of home with its radius cherry cabinetry, flat screen TV and 100-gallon water heater. Attendees are invited to kick the tires on this heavy-duty trailer that Sales Manager Ted Tatum says, “Feels like a hotel, but is built like a tank!”

South Side Motors, Inc., Tacoma: Wayne Sandy, general manager
South Side Motors plans to bring eight models (24’ Class B to 40’ quad diesel pushers) of the world’s top selling motor homes by Winnebago. In business since 1942, this Top 20 Dealer in the Nation will highlight the recently introduced 24-foot Winnebago View. This Class C “cab over” coach boasts an aerodynamics design in combination with a Mercedes diesel engine that promises superior fuel mileage. General Manager Wayne Sandy reports that people are buying all Winnebago sizes. “These are people who appreciate that they have more money than time,” says Sandy. “They realize life is short!”

Sunrise Resorts of Washington, Black Diamond: Eric Marotzke, owner
Sunrise Resorts will be on board to promote its system of six RV resorts located in Washington State. The system’s flagship properties are Pier 4 Resort in Moses Lake with its 2,000 feet of shoreline and private marina and Eagles Nest Resort in Ilwaco, close to fishing and beachcombing on Long Beach.  “Previously, Sunrise Resorts marketed itself as a national destination,” observes owner Eric Marotzke. “But these days the emphasis is to camp close to home.”

Tacoma RV Center, Lakewood: LaDonna Kummerfeldt, president
Tacoma RV Center plans to shine the spotlight on several Keystone products including the new 10th Anniversary Edition Montana and new, unique Loft toy hauler.

Available in five lengths (29’ to 36’), the Montana comes standard with a remote control device that operates the slideout, powerjacks and awning.  New in 2008, the Loft (27’) invites owners to stow their toys in the back and walk upstairs to the upper deck living space. Especially appealing to quad owners, the Loft separates the machines from the people. “People are buying and they still want their fun,” observes Tacoma RV Center President LaDonna Kummerfeldt. “They just aren’t going as far.”

U-Neek RV Center, Kelso: Terry Sinkler, VP
Un-Neek RV Center lives up to its name and reputation again this year when it brings Lee Enterprises Manufacturing custom Park trailers to the Tacoma RV Show. Of three Park models on display, the one with the greatest eye-appeal is the log cabin-style cottage (12’ x 48’), which offers an 8-foot-long screened-in porch and log furniture. “Typically parked on recreational property, it looks like a log cabin with a metal, peak roof and wood siding,” says Vice President Terry Sinkler.

Sinkler observes that two markets are going strong. Big fifth wheels are being parked as second homes or vacation getaways, with people traveling back and forth in a more economical vehicle. Otherwise, he sees smaller, lighter half-ton trailers or towables enjoying success. He notes that RVers typically buy a different vehicle every three-to-five years. As a result of today’s owners’ awareness, many are downsizing to 20’ to 25’ fifth wheels to achieve greater fuel economy.

Watts RV Center, Kent: Donna Watts, owner

Watts RV Center will bring a total of more than two dozen Jayco and Winnebago motor homes and towables. Visitors will get to tour more than a dozen popular Jayco products, including the motorized Greyhawk, Sport and Melbourne coaches and Designer, Eagle and Jayfeather towables. Also, watch for more than a dozen Winnebago coaches such as the Horizon, Ellipse and Suncruiser.

Western Motor Coach, Fife: Tony Weeldryer, general manager
Western Motor Coach will be on deck with a full lineup of Country Coach models (34’ to 45’).  Introduced last summer, the new Veranda diesel pusher (45’) features an innovative wall that folds down into a deck. Says General Manager Tony Weeldryer, “People think it is the neatest thing in RVs since slideouts!”

Woodall’s Publications

Woodall’s Publications is giving away copies of its “Cooking on the Road” to the first 150 visitors to the show each day. With 71 years in the publishing business, the publisher also invites visitors to pick up a copy of its classic Campground Directory. Known as the resource for “Everywhere RVers Go,” this year’s guide again features “One-Tank Trips” and listings and ratings for 15,000 government and private parks throughout North America.
